Background.

Novair is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apollo, which is Sweden’s third largest tour operator. Novair, together with the tour operator Apollo, the specialists Golf Plaisir, Lime Travel and Xtravel and the sports resort Playitas, creates the group DER Touristik Nordic AB. Since 2015, Novair and Apollo have been part of the privately owned German group REWE with more than 300,000 employees.

Novair flies to both traditional Mediterranean destinations and long-distance destinations. Novair has all of Scandinavia as its home market and our largest departure airports are Stockholm Arlanda and Oslo Gardemoen. The aircraft fleet consists of Airbus A321NEO manufactured in 2017.

– We see ourselves as the world’s smallest airline with only two airplanes in our fleet, says Peter Sandgren, Director of Ground Operations at Novair.

Peter has been in the company for over 20 years and has taken on various roles over the years and for the past three years, he has overseen the entire ground operations process.

– Since we do not develop any solutions in-house, we need to purchase services and resources from different suppliers. I am in continuous dialogue with companies providing everything from fuel to handling agents and passenger data management to ensure the best possible solution for Novair, Peter says, and quickly adds:

– It is my job to make sure that our suppliers and contracted providers follow our procedures and processes.

Secure data

The demand for flexible passenger data management is high and finding a flexible solution that could help Novair with their passenger data management was a key priority already from the beginning.

Apollo, had worked with charter flights for almost a decade and was well-versed with the possible roadblocks of in-house passenger data management.

That is when Novair and Apollo came across Paxport and PaxManagement, a smart and efficient passenger management system.

It collects and consolidates data from airlines, tour operators, travel agents, airports, and authorities and distributes it dynamically to the concerned parties. All while keeping the data safe and secure.

– A simple and easy-to-use solution is not enough for us. We need to ensure that passenger data does not fall into the wrong hands. If we are flying to Egypt, the data must be sent, encrypted of course, to Swedish police as well as Egyptian authorities. Paxport has done a great job to continuously develop its system and make sure it is compliant with new rules and regulations, Peter says.

Boosting ancillary sales

On top of the Management system, Novair is also taking advantage of the fact that Apollo is using PaxShop as their ancillary platform. When making a booking with Apollo and Novair, the traveler can choose seats, add extra luggage, select lounge access, and book other special packages like a glass of champagne and a box of chocolate.

– Paxport is very forward-thinking in their approach and always willing to try new ideas. They have done a great job to improve both design and functionality over the years, says Malin Rappe, Head of Nordic Ancillary Services at Apollo.

What are your upcoming plans with PaxShop?

– Our goal for the upcoming year is to really increase conversion on ancillary sales together with Paxport. One of the main news for the upcoming months, is that we are working for an API solution where we will be able to send passenger data in real time. This will increase the sales window and allowing Apollo customers purchasing ancillaries at an earlier stage.
